DSC & ATURA architecture broke ground this month on a new design-build 6,280 sq. ft. facility for Raccoon River Pet Shelter in Perry, Iowa.
Currently, the private organization is housed in a 300’ “shed.” The new facility will be able to support the animal rescue & control needs for all of Dallas County. The facility will have 13 kennels, 40 cat condos, a meet and greet multi-purpose room, grooming and operation rooms, isolation rooms for cats and dogs, secured entry and drop-off for law enforcement, office space, and storage space. Cat rooms will be fitted with large aluminum clad windows to allow for natural light and outside views. Dog kennels will have a guillotine-style door to allow easy access outside into the large dog runs. Individual drains to each kennel will allow for easy cleaning and mitigate the risk of diseases spreading from dog to dog. The facility also includes a state-of-the-art HVAC system to ensure a welcoming and odor-free environment for years to come.
Construction is scheduled to be completed by late 2019.
