Construction is underway for the new $14 million Mason City Municipal Airport (MCW) Passenger Replacement Terminal. The existing terminal currently in use was built in 1965 over an existing foundation of a previous farmhouse. It is 14,300 SF, with 10,700 SF on the ground level and 3,600 on the second level.
The new terminal will be 23,000 SF and includes a more modern security checkpoint, more gate hold space for travelers, an expanded Aircraft Parking Apron, and additional spaces for Airline, Bus line, Transportation Security Administration, and Airport Administration offices. The parking lot will double in size.
The new terminal will be constructed directly west of the current one and while the current one is still in operation, allowing for the airport to continue business as usual.
DSC crews started in April. The new terminal is expected to open to the public in Summer 2024.
