In the spring of 2016, Dean Snyder Construction helped Fareway Stores, Inc. open a unique experience for their customers with the construction of a new stand-alone Meat Market in Omaha, Nebraska. Known for their quality meats, this 6,000 SF full-service store, offers Fareway customers a one-stop shop for their meal needs. A 56′ expanded meat counter includes their normal USDA choice & prime beef and all-natural chicken and pork as well as an expanded seafood section. The Meat Market also includes a limited produce section, snacks like gourmet pretzels and popcorns, a few staples like eggs and milk, as well as plastic cups and paper plates. The meat case includes several pre-marinated and pre-seasoned items that are ready to hit the grill as soon as customers get home. Grass-fed beef and organic chicken are also available.
This last fall, the interior design by TACKarchitects won the Architectural People’s Choice Award for Excellence in Interiors at the American Institute of Architects – Nebraska Chapter Awards Ceremony. A focal part to the design is a large statue of a steer, which sits atop a ledge and can be seen from outside through a window. At 800 pounds, the steer was hoisted to its position with a pulley and lift kit. Also included in the design is a triangulated surface above the meat counter that represents the folding and packaging of meat.
Fareway Stores now operates three Meat Markets. DSC crews also built a new one in Lincoln, NE and remodeled an existing building to include one in Ames, Iowa.
