Project Description

From their humble beginnings in a school gymnasium, Prairie Ridge Church has rapidly become one of the fastest growing congregations in the Des Moines area. The evangelical congregation, which had been renting space in a school gym, selected Dean Snyder Construction to build their first building. The contemporary facility features a café and coffee shop, full theatrical sound and production system and a one-of-a-kind basement classroom and fellowship area for students called the Junkyard.

To accommodate the changing needs of a rapidly growing church, spaces within the building must be flexible. The auditorium-style outreach, worship, and performance area includes a stage and movable seating for 1,000 people. A reception and gathering hall is perfect for fellowship and celebrations and conference space meets the administrative needs of Prairie Ridge.

The modern structure features continuous metal exterior panels that are more than 130 foot long. These panels, used for both siding and roofing, had to be formed on-site. Sitework included ample parking lot for the large congregation, colored concrete sidewalks, and two detention ponds. The heating and cooling units were placed at ground-level with underground ducts dug into the building to prevent any vibration sounds from disrupting the occupants.
